Wilderness Cabin Stays
From humble beginnings, the Whanganui River descends from Mount Tongariro, Central North Island. Following forest-clad valley's gathering waters from the mountain streams, Mangtepopo, Waione and Waipari, before reaching the remote riverside cabin 'Te Whare O Nga Whio'(The house of the Blue Ducks)."



Nestled deep in the King Country Outback is our authentic riverside cabin with log fire, hot shower, flush toilet and bbq area. In addition to the main cabin we also have 3 separate sleep-outs. 2 single bed units and one double unit with ensuite.



'Go Bush' has the only riverside cabin on the headwaters of the Whanganui River.




Access to camp is provided by 4x4 Suzuki Jeeps. Your Driver/Guides will ensure you safe passsage on this 15km forested trail. Taking around 90 minutes, the journey takes in views of North Island Central Plateau, Mt Ruapehu, Mt Ngauruhoe and the sacred mountain of the Tuwharetoa people, Mt Tongariro.


Our personally designed bbq and breakfast bar has the Whanganui river flowing meters below which makes for outdoor dining with a difference.

We have a fully catered option, or guests are welcome to provide and cook their own meals.

The Central Plateau has one of the highest population of endangered 'Whio whio' (Blue ducks) in New Zealand. These feathered guardians are a sign of a quality river system. This pair often join us for breakfast, below the cabin.

*** Mountain Biking ***

Starting from our bush base off state highway 41 between Taumarunui and Turangi ,you can either ride the first hill , (which is a bit of a grunter) or load bikes on to our 4x4 suzuki jeeps and start from the top. From there it is about 20 kms mainly down hill, into our riverside cabin ( featured on "Pams" TV commecial ).

Spend the night at the cabin , then cross the river into the Tongariro forest, meet up with the "42 Traverse" and be picked up at the Whakapapa bridge, Owhango.
